Theo Bremer was admitted to the Amsterdam Bar in August 1960, after passing the civil-law notary exams in 1955 and completing his law studies at the University of Utrecht in 1958. He joined the Amsterdam law firm of Blaisse, which later became Stibbe&Blaisse and eventually Stibbe, where he remained until 1999. He resigned from the Bar in 2006 and is currently a consultant to our firm.

Theo developed his specialisation of intellectual property, focusing on copyright law in the publishing industry and on patent law, particularly in the pharmaceutical and chemical industries. He also focuses on trademark law based on the introduction of the Benelux Trademark Act. He was an active member of the Dutch Association for Intellectual Property, of which he was chairman for ten years. Theo served as a substitute judge at a subdistrict court and later at the Amsterdam Court of Appeal and in the Patent Section in The Hague. He also held a number of positions in the Bar Association, most recently as Dean for the district of Amsterdam. He serves on the supervisory boards of a number of large and small companies and has held numerous board positions at a variety of educational, health care, social and cultural institutions. At Stibbe, Theo served as Chairman of the Board for two 7-year terms.

On 1 January 1999, he co-founded Leidsegracht to conduct an independent practice. His current activities mainly involve supervisory board memberships, arbitration and mediation, and holding supervisory and executive positions at a number of private and semi-public institutions, notably in the cultural sector.
