Gert-Jan van den Bergh has practised law since 1991. After obtaining his law degree at Catholic University Nijmegen (currently Radboud University Nijmegen) and going on to earn an LL.M. from Columbia Law School in New York, he joined Stibbe, where he remained until 2004, the last four years as a partner.

Specialising in all aspects of intellectual property, Gert-Jan advises a wide range of clients, both listed and non-listed companies - often with portfolios of internationally known brands - as well as cultural institutions and not-for-profit organisations. More generally, Gert-Jan is involved in contract law and litigation. In recent years, one of his particular focal areas has been art restitution, which has earned him both national and international recognition.

In 2004, Gert-Jan relocated his practice to the smaller setting at Leidsegracht. It is important to Gert-Jan to have enough time for personal development in addition to his legal work. He is, for example, a keen music lover - it's been a passion ever since he graduated with a degree in Piano Performance from the Ecole Normale de Musique in Paris in 1984.

Gert-Jan has served on the boards of a variety of cultural institutions in the Netherlands, in addition to working as a post-graduate lecturer at Nijmegen University. Gert-Jan speaks French, German and English.
